Annual Active Parishioner Confirmation
April 1, 2026
Dear Families,
Last week, as part of their annual process, the Des Moines Region Catholic Schools Office asked parishes to confirm and update records verifying that families enrolled in Catholic schools are active, registered members. Based on the criteria we shared with you last fall, we have confirmed those St. Pius X families who met the following criteria:
- The family is registered at St. Pius X.
- The family has a signed Commitment of Faith on file. Please note that we only ask you to sign this document once, but to live it daily.
- The family is demonstrating this commitment by participating in parish life, attending Mass, and supporting the parish through regular tithing. We use our parish envelopes or electronic giving to verify your attendance and tithing. Please know that zero giving is not an option for an active parishioner family.
Families who listed St. Pius X as their parish but did not meet the above requirements will receive a letter in the coming week on how they can meet the requirements next year. We know that there are families who attend St. Pius X Catholic Parish School who do not belong to St. Pius X Parish; if you are Catholic, your parish of registration will confirm your active parishioner status.
We encourage you to review the Commitment of Faith on our website: https://stpiusxurbandale.org/news/555-commitment-of-faith. This Commitment of Faith articulates how together we are working to accomplish our mission to Love God. Love Others. Make Disciples. Restore All Things in Christ.
In Christ,
Fr. Matthew Luft
Pastor
Knights of Columbus Can and Bottle Drive
Thank you St. Pius X! With your help the SPX Knights of Columbus raised $5735.85 throughout 2025 from the Can and Bottle collections. That is over 100,000 cans and bottles collected!! These proceeds were donated to InnerVisions Healthcare to support the purchase of a new ultrasound machine and other initiatives. Our next collection will be Saturday, May 9. Check out the complete 2026 schedule here.
The Knights of Columbus will hold their can and bottle drive on the second Saturday of the month, March through December between 9 am and 11 am. Salvation Army Casserole Collection
The Community Outreach Committee intends to be a catalyst for the work of social justice and raise awareness about Catholic social teaching.
St. Pius X periodically sponsors parish events to help people understand the issues and needs in our world today.
We also participate in the Salvation Army Canteen breakfast casserole program every other month. Please pick up a pan(s) to prepare and freeze breakfast casseroles that later will be used to feed homeless clients. Just one dozen eggs makes three casseroles or 20 meals! In 2023 St. Pius provided 880 casseroles and 1958 boxes of cereal. Help reach our goal of 1000 pans in 2024! For more information contact Gail Kotval 515-661-1974 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank You!
The Salvation Army is so appreciative of the support St. Pius Parish provides to their canteen breakfast program. During our six collections in 2025, we donated 1,039 casseroles and 1,040 boxes of cereal! These donations provided many meals for our hungry neighbors. We have great volunteers who help rescue food used for the meals, work serving on the canteen or doing quantity casserole baking at the Salvation Army kitchen. Thank you to all of the parishioners for their help and donations in 2025.
Please make sure freezer door is closed.
