Order of Christian Initiation of Adults - OCIA
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a process for people who want to explore the Catholic Church. Anyone is welcome to join us on the spiritual journey of learning what it means to be Catholic and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. For many people, that journey began with their Baptism in another Christian tradition, and for others the journey is a brand new way of life.
There are four stages in the OCIA process. Each one is unique and is celebrated with the parish community. The Inquiry is the first stage in which people are welcomed and made to feel at home in our parish so they can learn in a general way what we believe as a faith community who follow Jesus. The Catechumenate is a time of more focused and dedicated formation. The Period of Purification and Enlightenment coincides with the season of Lent and is a time for spiritual formation and reflection in preparation for the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. The final stage of the OCIA process is Mystagogy. This is a time for a reflection and deepening of the Paschal Mystery and how they will make it part of their lives by meditation on the Gospel, sharing in the Eucharist and doing works of charity.
